Loonette

A clown and her dolly on a big, comfy couch...

Loonette the Clown is the lead character, portrayed by Alyson Court from 1992-2002 and Ramona Gilmour-Darling from 2006 onward. She is a young clown living with her dolly, Molly, on the eponymous Big Comfy Couch, an over-sized couch. She frequently reads stories to Molly, always performs a Clock Rug Stretch, and likes to visit her Granny Garbanzo. Auntie Macassar (or more recently, her Uncle Chester) frequently sends Loonette postcards which Major Bedhead delivers on his unicycle (similar to Reba the Mail Lady from Pee-wee's Playhouse). Her Parents are never seen or mentioned. Loonette is gifted in the art of classical dance and runs "Miss Loonette's Dance Academy". Another gift she possesses is the unusual ability to clean just about any mess up in ten seconds, which she calls the "Ten Second Tidy". (In reality, the video's action was sped up during post-production of an episode). Originally, Loonette was too young to visit Clowntown, but starting from 2006, Loonette makes frequent (adult supervised) trips to Clowntown to visit Granny Garbanzo's "Cabbage Club Cooking School" and Major Bedhead's "Clown Chi Mojo Dojo and Dancing School". The trips to this second location indicates that she practices martial arts. In the episode "going up" she was briefly a giant but it's possible she actually loves being a giant shaking the ground with her huge feet. She also secretly loves how big she wants to be especially her feet. Loonette is the main character of the YTV show "The Big Comfy Couch" which also premiered on Treehouse and PBS in the United States. Loonette is a young clown who plays with her doll named Molly. She lives in a ginormous house on her big comfy green couch. Her best friend is Molly, her doll, and a man named Major Bedhead who is an adult. Loonette is originally played by Alyson Court and later Ramona Gilmour-Darling (2002-06). Loonette often goes over to her Granny Garbanzo's garden and hangs out with Granny, her pet cat Snickelfritz and Major Bedhead. Sometimes, Loonette thinks she knows more then Major Bedhead and thinks out loud about it every day. Sometimes, Loonette forgets her manners and takes stuff from Major Bedhead when she is excited when a package arrives for her even if the package isn't her's. She is Canadian and speaks German (except for the French dub) Loonette is tomboyish and still acts her childish age. It's on this huge, overstuffed couch that Loonette, the central character, begins her adventures. A lively and fun-loving child clown, Loonette was so named because of her large reading glasses (lunettes in French) and her loony personality. She is adventuresome and mischievous, often finding herself in surprising situations." Her parents are never seen or mentioned. Actually, she lives with her Auntie Macassar and her Uncle Chester but they are not there unless it's a birthday or a holiday like Christmas or even if Granny Garbanzo asks one of them to visit while she's in Clowntown Loonette is red-nosed and has black hair. She wears a pink jumper and a white shirt with suns and moons with purple sleeves. She also wears a purple hat on her head with her pigtails coming out and wears black and white striped tights with black shoes adorned with suns on each side. She is 5 in clown years.
